APU LINE
At more than 4,000 metres above sea level in the region of Puno, the main producer of Alpaca fibre in Peru, are situated the communities of Ajoyani, Antauta and Queracucho, where the majority of the women possess a rich Andean textile legacy, the skilled use of Alpaca fibre in hand spinning which they have been passing down from generation to generation since Prelncan times.
lt is through the education and training of mothers and wives of Alpaca shepherds that traditional hand-spinning techniques have been combined with more contemporary yarn designs which are to appear this season in a line of hand spun yarns called APU. This line is comprised of three yarns: Maria, Rosario and Sirca, which are made of Baby Alpaca, FS Alpaca and a blend of FS Alpaca with Peruvian wool accordingly, each taking full advantage of the rich range of natural colours offered by Alpaca fibre.
